What Sparked PlanVera’s Founding?
“The idea for software like this first came to me about three years ago. It kept resurfacing, especially whenever there was a real, practical need for something like it,” says PlanVera founder Marko Siekkinen.
“Initially, I wanted software like this for my own company — starting a new business was never the plan. The spark for founding PlanVera actually came later, after conversations with Petteri Karppinen in the summer of 2025.”
Siekkinen explains that the key problem on construction sites is tracking the true progress of projects — and a year ago, the market simply didn’t have software that solved this core problem.
“A year ago, I decided to do something about it and reached out to Petteri. I pitched him the idea, and that’s really where our joint project began. There are plenty of solutions on the market for progress tracking, and most of them work by comparing budgeted costs and hours against accumulated costs and hours. That approach works fine in an ideal scenario, where everything goes according to plan. But that’s not how construction sites work in practice. A false picture can easily emerge — from miscalculated costs or hours, or simply inefficient work.”
PlanVera was born to meet a real need — repeated wasted time no longer has to be an accepted part of everyday life in construction.
“For the first time, PlanVera brings to market a solution that gives you true, real-time progress tracking,” Siekkinen sums up.
